Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, during the weekend announced scholarships for 38 pupils of Inland Primary School, Imilike in Udenu Local Government Area of the State.
The scholarship which will see the pupils through university education was in recognition of their wonderful performance at the grand finale of the Peoples Democratic Party campaign rally held at Obollo Afor, the headquarters of Udenu, the home Local Government Area of the gubernatorial candidate of the Party, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The pupils thrilled the mammoth crowd for more than 10 minutes on issues of our democracy, voters’ mobilization and enlightenment, prompting the highly elated Governor Chime to announce the university scholarship for them on behalf of the State Government.
He said, “I will like to specially thank the pupils of Inland Primary School, Udenu for this great feat. The government of Enugu State has decided to give scholarship to these school children that put up a wonderful performance here today.
“ Even as adults, most people can’t memorize the way they did; there are 38 of them and we have decided to give them scholarship.
“Already, we have free primary education in Enugu State; so, in addition to that, they shall enjoy scholarship up to first degree level”.
The Governor equally announced a special package for a retired headmaster, who coordinated the presentation, as well as automatic promotion for five teachers that equally joined the pupils in the presentation.
Chime also thanked the people of Udenu Local Government Area in a special way for giving the State the person like Ugwuanyi to take over the reins of government for the next eight years, adding that his acceptability by all and sundry indicated that the people have agreed to vote for Ugwuanyi and the PDP.
In his speech, the governorship candidate of the PDP, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi thanked the people for their overwhelming turn out to receive the PDP campaign train and enjoined them to translate their enthusiasm into positive action by voting for President Jonathan and all other PDP candidates in the upcoming elections.
Ugwuanyi also promised to adopt all policies and programmes of Governor Chime’s administration in order to achieve “seamless continuity and consolidation” in the governance of Enugu State.
He expressed appreciation to party officials and others contributed to the success of the rallies urging them to continue with the spirit until victory is finally achieved.
