No fewer than 40 petitions challenging the outcome of the 2015 general elections in Delta State have so far been received at the state Governorship, National Assembly and state House of Assembly tribunals.
In the Governorship Election Tribunal, three aggrieved governorship candidates have filed petitions challenging the victory of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the secretary of the tribunals in the state, Al’Sadiq Abubakar, the Labour Party, All Progressive Congress (APC) and one other party filed the petitions challenging PDP’s victory.
Abubakar also disclosed that while one petition was received for the Senate, seven petitions were received from aggrieved candidates for the House of Representatives seats in respect of the March 28 National Assembly elections.
According to him, 29 petitions from aggrieved candidates for the April 11 House of Assembly election Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has received three petitions from aggrieved candidates of the April 11 governorship election in the state.
Abubakar said all the petitions were received at the tribunals between April 17 and May 3, adding that the inaugural sitting of the tribunals would soon take place.
He explained that the tribunals are made up of a chairman and two members each, noting that while the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal would be sitting at High Court three, beside Grand Hotel, the National Assembly/Legislative House tribunal will be sitting at at High Court 5, both in Asaba.
