Who is more unfaithful in marriage — man or woman?

There have been lots of arguments over who cheats more in marriage. While some believe that men are more unfaithful, some say it is women. However, almost everyone believes infidelity exists in many marriages. It is based on this that SATURDAY PUNCH sought some Nigerians’ opinions on who cheats more in marriage

Both parties do so equally

Mohammed Mariam

I will say both genders cheat equally. While I was young, I used to have a mindset that men were usually the unfaithful ones, but now I realise that both parties do so equally. Some African men have a mentality that they must cheat because they are the head, but aside this, women also cheat. I can’t categorically say who does it more; it is equal. Before ladies of nowadays are married, I hardly see one who does not have more than one boyfriend. They have many. However, most women become faithful once they marry, while many men are still unfaithful in marriage.

Men are more unfaithful

Obi Ben

Several experiences have made me realise it is men. They are so dubious and deceitful; they can do anything to get what they want regardless of their status. Countless married men have come to me for an affair, knowing well that I am also married. They want us to be friends. What kind of relationship do they want with me? I usually abuse and lambast some of them. I have seen a lot. I can never trust them, even in business. Some men are very cunning.

It depends on some factors

Ayo Christiana

It has to do with many factors, but particularly one’s upbringing dictates how one perceives this. No matter how cool, educated, gentle one is, he or she will always cheat if they are not from a responsible home. A responsible man will not cheat on his wife. Also,  a woman who is not brought up in a good home,  or who is having challenges in marriage will do such. For some people, you can’t blame their unfaithfulness. It may be due to some challenges. But no matter how, one should not cheat.

Men can’t be trusted

Onyekara  Patricia

Women have soft and conscience-driven minds, but as for men, they deceive a lot — anywhere — whether at the office, in the church, or school, just name it. They lie to their wives anyhow. They are the head, no doubt, and they use this ‘privilege’ to get whatever they want. I have heard and seen a lot. Men cannot be trusted before and after marriage. Men’s treacherous acts are not affected by age or time. They can’t change. That is what they are.

Men are very unfaithful

Obiagwu Chidinma

It is the men because they have no conscience. A woman will never cheat without any reason. They may do so either to get money to cater for the family or when their husbands are maltreating them. Sometime ago, a young man who was just married for two years approached me and said he was interested in me. Imagine that! There are many of them outside. Most men are not reliable. Some don’t perform their responsibilities at home and yet they cheat. Women are cool and always fearful, because they listen to their conscience more than men. Most men  don’t see anything wrong in being unfaithful.

Women originated unfaithfulness

Pius Omadime

It depends on one’s perception of an individual and it depends on the circumstances that warrant the unfaithfulness. But from the outset, I mean biblically, a woman started this issue of unfaithfulness in the Garden of Eden. In other words, women can be as unfaithful as men.

Men are specialists

Ifedayo Ogunyemi

Men, of course, are more unfaithful. It’s only because lots of noise are made when a woman cheats than when a man does so. The society tends to see man’s unfaithfulness as a normal thing, which is not. For instance, a man can marry as many wives as he wants, but a woman can’t dare date another man. Women too could be unfaithful, but we cannot compare it to men’s unfaithfulness.

It is difficult to generalise

Valentine Ematosim

I cannot really say who is more unfaithful because it depends on the type of people we are talking about. In some homes, there are faithful couples and vice versa. It is difficult to generalise. Any gender can cheat more. It’s just the way they do it that is different. A woman keeps it a top secret when she’s cheating, while a man sometimes does it openly. In the society, women have more fear and can be depended upon, but men cannot be totally depended upon because they are careless in relationships.

Women can’t be trusted at all

Azeez Salami

Women are not truthful at all. They may have several concubines who will not know themselves even outside wedlock. A man may marry many wives so far he can cater for all of them. Most women at home are not faithful to their husbands. They cheat in all things and it is not their fault. It is just that they are not created complete, that is the way they are. A friend had a girlfriend, who, unknown to him, was dating another person. This was kept secret until the lady got pregnant for another man while the fiancé hadn’t even touched her. This is happening everywhere.

Men are because women seldom have liberty

Moris Micheal

I am a man and I understand what it means. We men are more unfaithful. For instance, it is rare that a woman would marry two husbands at once, but men can marry as many wives as they can and still cheat on them. Women are afraid their husbands will chase them away if they cheat. Men don’t care. If my wife dares to cheat on me and I know, she shouldn’t be surprised that there will be instant change. Even in business, men are so unfaithful. A man can sleep with a woman for the fun of it, but the woman will not do that. – The Punch.
