Suspended Enugu Youth Rally and SAVEENUGU Group fabrications

By Enugu Urban Association

It is quite unfortunate and pathetic that despite the fact that their antics, which is to be feeding the unsuspecting publics with lies about events and activities in our dear and peaceful Coal City state of Enugu, especially as it affects government and governance is already known and exposed, the faceless and shameless people behind the so called SAVEENUGU group have continued to frolic on social media platforms as usual.

Latest of their misleading lies and usual stock-in-trade fabrications is about the suspended Enugu Youth Rally For Gburugburu.

Contained in the figment of their imaginations they published on their online platform titled “Enugu Youths Rally For Gburugburu Is A Display Of Mockery” where their usual unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations against those behind the suspended youth rally, Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his government.

These included alleged itemised budget for the suspended rally and allegations that over 1 billion Naira would have been expended on the suspended rally. Others include that huge amount budgeted to revitalize Adani Rice in Uzo-Uwani was diverted to APC stakeholders that helped the governor to rig 2019 gubernatorial election.

Is it not possible that the Saveenugu group is behind the suspended rally? If not, how did they come about the itemised budget they claimed to be for the suspended rally?  How do they raise such money for the rally? Who are their sponsors, because they never said or alleged that Enugu state government is sponsoring the rally.

Well, while we commend those behind the rally for suspending it in the light of the sudden upsurge of insecurity across the country and Federal Government’s renewal of  directives on COVID-19 protocols, we challenge the faceless and social media based Saveenugu group to substantiate their allegations against the state government or bury their heads in shame, if they have conscience.

This is because the onus lies on them that  alleged to substantiate with facts and evidences. Anything to the contrary, which has always been the case with their past numerous baseless allegations and lies against the government and people simply means that they are once again exposed for who they are- bunch of blackmailers, mischief makers, liars, instigators, urban guerillas, e-rats and hired hirelings who are joblessly hibernating, disguising as Saveenugu group and potraying Enugu State Government and its people in a badlight on social media platforms for selfish political reasons.

We have observed with dismay that their modus operandus is to continue to consistently fabricate and peddle lies against Enugu State Government and her people, taking  advantage of the susceptibility, gullibility and vulnerability of some people to social media lies and misinformation.

But it seems they have forgotten so quick that following series of fallacies and lies they have fabricated and peddled against Enugu State Government and its people on social media before now, majority of Nigerians especially Ndi Enugu are not taking them serious.

For example how can the so called Saveenugu group allege that APC stakeholders in Enugu were shared billions of Naira by Governor Ugwuanyi for helping him to rig 2019 governorship election, when it is on record and a public  document that Ugwuanyi won the 2019 election with a landslide by scoring 95.4 per cent, which is unprecedented in the governorship election results in the state since its creation.

This was attested to by the National INEC Commissioner, Chief Mike Okoye, who said on the day Gov. Ugwuanyi received his second term Certificate of Return that Enugu State had the most peaceful elections in Nigeria.

As concerned and law- abiding citizens and residents of Enugu, we will continue to keep tab on the activities of government, individuals and groups, partner with them to promote the existing peace, security and development in the state.

We are averse to any action or event capable of instigating or inciting people against people or people against government which may lead to breach of peace and breakdown of law and order. Enugu is our state.

We should all join hands to safeguard and move it forward. We welcome constructive criticism and engagements embedded in facts, altruism and patriotism. We frown at armchair criticisms, blackmail, scare mongering, mudslinging and crisis that are capable of dividing us more than uniting us.
