The Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, the Arewa Consultative Forum and the Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Sunday met in Enugu and reaffirmed their commitment to the unity of the country.
The regional bodies, at the end of the meeting which ran through Saturday to Sunday at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, conferred on the ACF’s Chairman and former Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie (rtd.), an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Public Administration. The occasion was the university’s 45th convocation.
The ACF delegation held a meeting with members of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo under its President-General, Chief Garry Igaraway.
A joint statement issued by Mallam Muhammad Ibrahim, the National Publicity Secretary, ACF and Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, respectively, reaffirmed their belief in the unity and corporate existence of one indivisible Nigeria with justice, fairness and equity to all.
According to the statement, the meeting also reinforced its stands on peaceful coexistence of its members in any part of the country, better understanding, trust and confidence among all Nigerians.
The groups, while throwing their weights behind the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government on the anti-corruption war, noted that the war must be sustained and called on all well-meaning Nigerians to support the President.
They also supported the current onslaught by the Nigerian military on the Boko Haram insurgents in the north-eastern part of the country.
“The meeting also re-enforced its stand on peaceful coexistence of its members in any part of the country, better understanding, trust and confidence among all Nigerians.
“The Arewa Consultative Forum and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo reaffirmed their belief in the unity and corporate existence of one indivisible Nigeria with justice, fairness and equity to all.
“We wholly support the war against the insurgency in the North-East region and commend the effort of our gallant soldiers at the frontline and the encouragement being given to them by the Federal Government.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the governments, people and families of innocent people killed in the affected states and equally sympathised with the displaced persons in the Internally Displaced Persons’ camps.
“We support the Federal Government’s war on corruption which must be sustained and call on all Nigerians to support this anti-graft fight.”
The statement added, “We agreed to frequently interact and discuss the state of the nation with other socio-cultural organisations, like the Yoruba Unity Forum, South-South Peoples Assembly, Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, among others, and forward our joint decisions to the Federal Government to aid good and equitable governance.” Punch
