Adamawa Assembly approves N5bn loan for LG salaries

he Adamawa State House of Assembly has approved a request from governor Mohammed Bindow to source for a N5 billion loan to clear local governments and agencies’ salary arrears.

The loan will be sourced from the United Bank for Africa (UBA) and will be strictly used for the intended purpose.

Part of the conditions approving the loan, is that the lawmakers will ensure full compliance by the 21 councils in the state.

The speaker, Kabiru Mijinyawa, who presided over the plenary, said that the lawmakers endorsed the resolution and directed the clerk to communicate it to the executive arm of government for further action.

The council workers are being owed salaries arrears, ranging from two to eight months, while LG health workers are been owed eight months’ salary arrears in the state.

Also yesterday, the House received a letter from the governor seeking for the confirmation of the appointment of a chairman and members for the state Fiscal Responsibility Commission.

The letter signed by Governor Jibirilla and read on the floor of the House has Dahiru Adamu as chairman, Husseini Abubakar, Baba Buba Galadima and Mrs. Solome Shamaki as members.

The speaker directed the nominees to appear before the House Standing Committee on Public Service for screening.
