A panel of inquiry set up by the Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Umaru Fintiri, to investigate the administration of ex-Governor Murtala Nyako has commenced its public hearing, one week after its inauguration.
The Justice Bobbo Umar commission, which was inaugurated on August 5, 2014 is holding its sitting at New High Court complex in Yola and it is expected to receive oral and written documents from the public.
The panel, which has four weeks to complete its assignment, is among other things asked to investigate the financial accruals to the state from the Federation Account between June 2007 and June 2014 as well as fund disbursement and application by the ministries, boards and parastatals.
The commission will also investigate deployments and administration of human resources, including the setting up, financial and operation of extra ministerial units.
In his inaugural speech, Justice Umar, assured that adequate protection would be given to witnesses, and solicited for the support and cooperation of the officials of ministries, boards and parastatals, considering the nature of the assignment and the time frame.
At the opening session, four government officials, the Accountant-General of the State, Alhaji Nasiru Mohammed; state chairman, Board of Internal Revenue, Alhaji Idris Tuta; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Geoffrey Garba; and the Permanent Secretary in the Local Government ministry, Mr. Kennedy Dauda, appeared before the commission.
The officials pleaded with the commission to give them more time to enable them produce documents required from them.
Umar in his ruling gave the officials up to Saturday (tomorrow) to produce the documents.
Counsel to the commission, Samuel Kyenson, did not object to the ruling. – Punch.
