Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, and his counterpart from Anambra State, Charles Soludo, yesterday, agreed for home-grown solutions to resolve a lingering boundary dispute between the two states, as the Federal Government takes steps towards resolution of the disputed boundary.
At a meeting convened, yesterday, by the National Boundary Commission (NBC), which was aimed at appreciating the efforts made by the two states toward resolving the interstate boundary, they opted for a home-grown solution to the dispute.
While Anambra governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Onyeka Ibezim, said the two states are one, and, therefore, it was unnecessary to fight over mere and imagined boundary lines.
Ibezim, while appreciating the Federal Government for the intervention, added that some of the boundary issues could be resolved internally.
He blamed boundary disputes on distorted cultures and land grabbers who no longer have respect for culture and tradition of the people.
Mbah, who was represented by his Deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai, at the meeting in Abuja, stated that the two states are committed to quick resolution of the crisis.
He promised that the maximum number of meetings that it would take to resolve the issue would not exceed two meetings as they are all brothers.
Ossai said the world has evolved beyond fights over land, which is God’s given, stressing that there must be new ways and approaches to resolving disagreements over boundaries.
