Member, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka has called on former governor Peter Obi to steer clear Anambra Central rerun, saying he has served the people enough.
Ezeonwuka described the decision of the former governor to join the race as an illegality, saying that the Supreme Court, had in plethora of cases, said a fresh election resulting from an annulled election was a rerun and only those who contested the annulled election would be qualified to participate in such rerun.
He said a party that is already divided has nothing to offer to the people. “The PDP is divided over who represents the party in the rerun. While some are saying it is Annie Okonkwo, others are saying Obi. Does this look like a party that has anything good to offer the people of Anambra State? I don’t think so. Let Obi go and rest. He has served the people enough. He should give chance to others who are more vibrant and alive,” he said.
The Ogirisi Igbo who said APGA remains the only party that can unite the south east region maintained that the time has come for Ndigbo to come together and speak with one voice if they are to become relevant in the political arithmetic of the nation.
“The Hausas are always together when its time to pick a leader. The Yorubas have also united in picking their leader. Just recently, the south-south was not left out when the united behind former president Goodluck Jonathan. Why can’t the Igbo do the same? We have great men and women from the south east region that can lead this country. What is really our problem? APGA is a party formed to achieve results. So anybody that wins an election under its platform must deliver.
“Look at what Governor Willie Obiano, the Sun Man of the year, has done in Anambra State. Where many failed, he succeeded. He has touched so many lives in all the communities. Because of him, Anambra is today first among many. In education, security, health, road network, agriculture, and industries, Obiano has done tremendously well. Because of this wonderful man, armed robbery, kidnapping and other vices are on a zero level in Anambra State. If we have another APGA candidate as senator, you can imagine what Anambra would look like,” he said.
On the two years anniversary of Governor Obiano in office, Ezeonwuka said if what Obiano has achieved in two years of governance with shortfall of Federal Government allocation can be sustained for the next six years, the state could be comparable with New York, as he called all Ndi-Anambra to give the governor the maximum support to perform 100 percent.
