Atletico Madrid have set up a derby clash against Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, after mounting a stunning turnaround to defeat Barcelona 3-2 in the Semis.
Following a goalless first half in Jeddah, the match exploded into life in the 2nd, as Atletico’s Koke stabbed the ball home just 21 seconds after coming on as a substitute at the interval.
However, Lionel Messi fired Barca level five minutes later, after muscling his way past Atletico defenders on the edge of the area.
Antoine Griezmann then turned the game on its head, after nodding home a rebound just after the hour mark.
However, Atletico fought back, and Alvaro Morata converted the penalty in the 81st minute, when Vitolo was brought down in the area by goalkeeper Neto.
And minutes later, Atletico struck the decisive goal when Angel Correa sprinted in behind the defense, and saw his shot bounce into the net, after a block by Neto.
In the Sunday showdown at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Atletico will meet city rivals Real Madrid, who saw off Valencia 3-1.
