Bauchi to hold first LG polls in 13 years

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission has announced plans to hold local government elections in the state on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

Local government elections last held in Bauchi State in 2007 during Isa Yuguda’s administration.

The announcement for the local government elections is in fulfilment of a promise made by Governor Bala Mohammed, on 22nd of January, 2020.

He made the promise shortly after   his election victory at the Supreme Court.

Mohammed had promised that before the end of January, he would give a three-month notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission on the planned elections.

The Executive Chairman of BASIEC, Dahiru Tata, in a notice made available to newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday, said, “Pursuant to the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the Bauchi State Electoral Law 2008 (as amended) and all others powers enabling her in that behalf, the Bauchi State Electoral Commission do hereby publish and give notice of local government council elections in Bauchi State, 2020.

“Further notice that the date of the elections (day of polls) is Saturday, 20th day of June, 2020, throughout Bauchi state; and that nomination papers are to be delivered at the commission’s headquarters in Bauchi.”
