The remains of former minister of foreign affairs, Ambassador Gbenga Ashiru arrived Lagos yesterday.
The body was flown in aboard South African Airways with flight number SA060, which landed at the international wing of the airport late in the evening.
The body, received by the family led by Prof. Toyin Ashiru, was later ferried out of the aircraft into a waiting hearse.
Brother of the deceased, Ogun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, is believed to have accompanied the body from South Africa declined to comment ostensibly as he was not in the right frame of mind to speak to the press.
Other members of the family were also present at the Gate 14 exit of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
After the aircraft touched down family members interfaced with relevant authorities including Nigerian Customs Service, South African Airways and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria for documentation.
Former managing director of Daily Times and Chief Executive Officer of Tanus Communication Company, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, Mr. Olatunbosun Ashiru, Mr. Alaba Okupe, Venerable Oludare Otoki, Venerable Leke Dina, Sir Kehinde Smith and Ambassador Oluwatoyin Lawal, former deputy high commissioner in London and Mr. Niyi Alonge as well as son of the deceased were on hand to receive the body of the ex-foreign affairs minister.
