The Kano/Jigawa command of the Nigeria Customs Service has arrested a Dubai-bound passenger in possession of 5,342 ATM cards concealed in a bag of beans at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
The Customs Area Comptroller, Nasir Ahmed, made the disclosure while handing over the suspect and other seized items to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday in Kano.
Ahmed said the suspect was arrested while trying to board a Dubai-bound Ethiopian Airline with the ATM cards.
Ahmed explained that the suspect, Sanusi Labaran, attempted to evade detection by his personnel by concealing the cards inside a bag of beans.
He noted that the Comptroller General of Customs had directed the command to hand over the suspect and the seized items to the EFCC for further investigation.
In his remarks while receiving the suspect and the items, the Kano Zonal Head of the EFCC, Sanusi Aliyu, said the agency would conduct thorough investigation on the matter.
“We will trace the owners of the ATM cards and charge them to court after concluding our investigations”, he said
