Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has doled out about N30bn to charity across the continent in the last two years, the Dangote Group has said.
The group also said the Dangote Foundation planned to up this philanthropic gesture to different African countries, including Nigeria.
The statement said in Benue State alone, the group had been running an annual scholarship scheme worth N10m in Gboko communities.
It said in Benue State, 15 villages were electrified at the cost of N115m, adding that 14 blocks of classrooms had been constructed for the community around the company at the cost of N84bn.
It also said through the Dangote Academy, it had spent about N1bn to provide the needed manpower across various disciplines.”
Last month, the Dangote Cement, Ibese, through the Dangote Foundation, announced a scholarship for some Yewa community, including 50 students of various secondary and tertiary institutions.
It also recalled that the group had recently donated $500,000 to victims of explosion in Republic of Congo.
“Dangote Foundation also contributed a staggering $2m to flood victims in Pakistan and N120m to cushion the effect of famine in Niger Republic,” it added.
Two years ago, the company made a donation of N2.5bn to cushion the effect of flooding in Nigeria, making it the single highest donation by a private body in Nigeria.
I thank the Dangote group for their charity. I challenge them to also publish their net profit and then provide the tax receipt of their payments to the government. This is the practice that is obtainable in all parts of the world. CHARITY SHOULD NOT BE MIXED UP WITH OBLIGATION
