The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), in a letter, confirmed it was investigating the Nigeria Football Federation on issue that bothers on financial impropriety.
FIFA also confirmed that it had suspended further disbursement of development funds to the NFF because the Glass House had not sufficiently provided details on how it expended the money it received from Zurich, the headquarters of the body.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung on Sunday disclosed at the NFF’s Annual General Assembly that FIFA was investigating Nigeria over developmental funds it gave the country.
Our correspondent however wrote a letter to the world football governing body who confirmed it was still awaiting responses from the NFF on possible way to resolve the issue.
A FIFA spokesman, Ségolène, told our correspondent in the letter that world governing body suspended the grants so as to install appropriate procedure on the management of the funds.
“FIFA is fully committed to supporting the member associations as we continue to improve our processes and structures,” Ségolène said in the letter.
“In light of this, FIFA recently introduced new requirements for the management and administration of development funds allocated to its member associations.
In cases of insufficient information as to the management of those funds FIFA may suspend the ordinary flow of such funds until a full understanding of the situation is achieved.
“FIFA continues to work and cooperate with the respective member in order to obtain the required information and, if needed, install the appropriate procedures and controls for such development funds.”
He said that FIFA was interested in working with Nigerian football authorities to resolve the impasse and restart the disbursement of the funds.
“FIFA are confident that by working together with the Nigeria Football Federation, the issues will be resolved,” the letter read. – New Telegraph.
