Governor Seriake Dickson has told senators from Bayelsa not to oppose the nomination and screening of a ministerial nominee from the state, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.
The governor urged senators from Bayelsa to close ranks on the nomination of Lokpobiri, saying the unity and progress of the state should be placed above party affiliation and selfish interests.
Dickson gave the charge when the state’s senator, under the aegis of National Assembly Caucus Forum, paid a condolence visit to him in Government House, Yenagoa, over the demise of Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, a former governor of the state.
A statement by Dickson’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, on Monday, quoted the governor as urging the senators to be committed to the development of Bayelsa.
Dickson expressed his resolve to collaborate with representatives of the state at the national level towards accelerating the state’s pace of development.
Dickson lauded the members of the National Assembly from Bayelsa for partnering with the state government with a view to actualising its vision, noting that development of the state was a collective responsibility.
On the death of Alamieyeseigha, the governor described him as a foremost Ijaw leader, whose demise had created a vacuum.
He, however, noted that nobody could query God.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Bayelsa State National Assembly Caucus Forum, Senator Foster Ogola, representing Bayelsa-West senatorial district, said Alamieyeseigha was a political colossus, who laid the foundation for the development of the state.
Recounting the Ijaw leader’s achievements, Ogola pointed out that he represented the voice of the Ijaw people across the country and protected their interest.
Alamieyeseigha died on October 10, 2015 at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt.
