The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has suspended its Deputy Speaker, Blaise Orji, and two others, Chima Eni (Afikpo South-West) and Frank Onwe (Ohaukwu North).
The lawmakers were suspended over alleged insubordination and attempt to cause disaffection between the legislative and executive arms of government.
In a emergency plenary on Tuesday, the member representing Izzi West, Francis Nwifuru, moved the motion for their suspension and was seconded by Chike Oguji (Ikwo South).
The state house of assembly has been embroiled in crises since the impeachment of the former Speaker, Ikechukwu Nwankwo, and the Deputy Speaker then, Valentine Okike.
Oguji said that, “the activities of the affected lawmakers are capable of disrupting the harmonious existence between the two arms of government.”
The 19 lawmakers unanimously adopted the suspension through a voice vote put by the Speaker, Chukwuma Nwanzunku.
However, the suspended lawmakers expressed optimism that their suspension was a minor misunderstanding. Punch
