The Federal High Court in Benin has dismissed a suit filed to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from publishing the list of the Legacy Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The suit, which was instituted by one Mr. Mathew Iduoriyekemwen and others, sought to compel INEC to reject the list of candidates from the camp of the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Dan Orbih, who emerged victorious from the primaries monitored by the electoral body.
The court held that it cannot stop INEC from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
However, it instructed that the status quo be maintained by the electoral body, thus rejecting the list of candidates from the camp of the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The court also granted leave for the Legacy PDP to be joined in the suit as requested by their lawyers.
The case was adjourned until 18th, July 2022 for the substantive hearing.
