The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied reports that Eberechukwu, wife of the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, was in its custody.
Online media had reported the arrest and detention of the former first lady of Anambra state.
The online media said she was arrested over alleged fraud.
However, when contacted, Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman, denied the report, saying that she was not in EFCC’s custody.
Eberechukwu had last week declared interest to contest in the 2023 elections to represent Anambra North District at the Senate under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
A fortnight ago, the EFCC yesterday released her husband, the former governor of Anambra State Willie Obiano, on bail
The ex-governor was arrested the previous week at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos, as he was preparing to board a flight to Houston, the United States.
The arrest was said to have taken place at about 8.30 p.m. last Thursday, hours after he left office as governor and, thus, lost his immunity from arrest and prosecution.
Obiano, who had been on the EFCC’s watchlist for some time, was arrested over corruption allegations.
