The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is interrogating the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State, Mr. Ikeje Asogwa.
An operative of the commission confided in our correspondent on Friday that Asogwa was interrogated in relation with the on-going investigation into the administration of former Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State.
Asogwa was a Managing Director of the Enugu State Housing Corporation under Chime as governor of the state.
It was learnt that operatives from the Economic Governance Unit assigned to the case are probing the Corporation suspected to have been used to defraud Enugu State of hundred millions of naira through phony projects.
It was alleged that funds released for the development of houses in Enugu State were diverted as the houses for which the money was released were not built nor the money returned to the coffers of the government.
Asogwa arrived the Idiagbon House Headquarters of the EFCC at Wuse 2, Abuja, by 10.30AM on Friday and had not been released by 4.00pm when this story was filed.
It could be recalled that the same EFCC has commenced effective investigation into the administration of Governor Sullivan Chime on Thursday with the interrogation of his former Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo.
Investigations showed that Nwobodo, who faced a team of EFCC interrogators, was detained till Friday to answer more questions and had not been released.
She is being probed for alleged money laundering and misappropriation of funds.
When our correspondent contacted the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, over the interrogation of Asogwa, he confirmed that the quiz ongoing on Friday.
“It is true that Mr. Asogwa is with the commission. He is being interrogated in relation money laundering related offences.”
