Over Seven hundred and fifty-nine million naira (N759,000,000) has been approved by the Enugu State Executive Council for the execution of various projects in the state.
This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chuks Ugwoke in a Press briefing at the end of the council’s meeting presided over by Governor Sullivan Chime at the Government House, Enugu.
According to Commissioner Ugwoke, the sum of Three hundred million naira (N300,000,000) was approved for the supply and installation of security (CCTV) and access control systems in the offices of the Enugu State new Secretariat buildings.
He noted that scope of work consisted of 579 Cameras, 44 Network Video Control Systems that are to be installed on 264 Doors with 22 Controllers, adding that contract was awarded to Prolines Vision Limited.
Commissioner Ugwoke who was accompanied in the press briefing by his Ministry of Commerce and Industry counterpart, Dr. Judge Akubilo and that of Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Mrs. Vivian Eze and Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Reduction, Mr. Godwin Ogenyi also said that the sum of Two hundred and thirteen million, twenty-one thousand, four hundred and nineteen naira, eighteen kobo (N213,021,419.18k) was also approved by the council for the construction of Asu River Bridge along Isiogbo-Nara road in Nkanu East local government area.
The council he said observed that the existing single lane old Concrete Bridge across Asu River along the road is dilapidated.
The Commissioner added that the council also noted that the present nature and increased volume of traffic using the bridge is beyond its bearing capacity.
Continuing, the Commissioner said that the sum of One hundred and six million, seven hundred and six naira, nine hundred and ninety-six naira (N106,706,996) was also approved by the council for the re-development of Emene Testing Ground and the Drivers Training Institute. He noted that the scope of work at the Institute included, fencing of the complex, renovation of V.I.O. testing building, Traffic Management Authority and the course construction of office buildings among others, adding that direct labour is involved.
The State Information boss added that the council also approved the sum of Eighty-nine million, nine hundred and eighty-nine thousand, six hundred naira (N 89,989,600) for the payment of the state counterpart fund for the State Rural Access and Mobility project
(RAMP II). He recalled that RAMP is a veritable instrument for rural transformation and poverty reduction through rural road construction in the selected intervention area.
The Commissioner also noted that the project is jointly executed by the Federal, State Governments, World Bank and the French Development Agency.
The sum of Forty-nine million, four hundred and ten thousand, nine hundred naira (N49,410,900) he said was approved by the council for the purchase of operational vehicles of the Enugu State Broadcasting Service in line with the huge investments by the State Government to rehabilitate, re-equip and restructure the station.
The Commissioner said that the Governor, His Excellency, Barr Sullivan I. Chime seized the opportunity of the meeting to thank the good people of the state and the entire South East region for turning out en-masse to receive the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his entourage during the recent Unity Rally in Enugu.
