The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control on Tuesday sanctioned 10 drug manufacturers, and suspended five for not complying with the rules and regulations of the agency in Kwara State.
The Director of NAFDAC, Kwara State office, Mrs Bolaji Abayomi, in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin said that the violation was in the first quarter of 2014.
Abayomi, who stressed that illegal manufacturers would be chased out of the state, added that seven water factories were also sanctioned.
She said that two of the violators were fined while the remaining five were suspended for some months.
“Two water factories were fined for not keeping healthy environment; four drug companies were sanctioned and their expired drugs were seized.
“Also, some patent medicine stores whose drugs are nearly expired and a hotel were sanctioned, while a Cold Room Operator was sanctioned and its sea foods destroyed,” Abayomi said.
She urged Kwara residents to always check expiring date, batch number, manufacture date and NAFDAC registration number before buying drugs or other consumable products.
Abayomi reiterated the agency’s commitment to clamp down on illegal manufacturers in the state, saying that it would not relent in its quest of safeguarding the health of the nation. NAN
