The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF) Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita has assured that the Federal Civil Servants would get 1000 housing units within six months under the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) programme.
She gave the assurance on Monday in Abuja while hosting a delegation of Brains and Hammers Estate developers in her office.
She said that housing for Nigerians is a priority of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and that the civil servants that implement government policies deserve the lion share of policies at achieving that.
Oyo-Ita said: “Military and Para-Military agencies have housing schemes including post-service schemes. The civil servants who formed the large part of policy drive deserve to have theirs. And since they are the largest contributors to the Federal Mortgage Bank, they deserve to be given topmost priority to access mortgages to finance their houses.
“There is the multiplier effect of having the proposed workers estate as skilled and unskilled employment opportunities would be provided. Schools, hospitals and other economic activities would be provided apart from the joy of the workers that they owned their houses.”
She added that over 8000 workers have applied for the programme and that more are expected.
Earlier, the Chairman of Brains and Hammer Adebola Sheidu promised that there is a discount of 20 to 30 percent for workers in the organisation’s scheme of its 72 hectares of land in FCT which would contain 3000 units of houses.
He said the pilot scheme would begin with 1000 units which would be delivered in six months without compromising standard.
He added that as an indigenous company, it would also use local raw materials to achieve the target.
The Executive Director of the organisation Ifeoma Okoye said their land located along Idu, Life-Camp area makes it closer for workers to get to their offices on time.
She said the 20 to 30 percent discount means that workers would pay N5m, N7m instead of 9.8m, N10.5m instead of N14.2m and N17.3m instead of N18.6m market values for one, two, three and four bedrooms respectively.
