In order to ensure that officers in the Federal Public Service are not able to manipulate their records, the Federal Government has introduced more stringent measures towards protecting data integrity on the IPPIS platform.
A statement by Mohammed Manga, the Assistant Director (Media Relations) for Head of the Civil Service of the Federation stated that a Circular titled “Incessant Requests for Change of Employee Date of Birth and Date of First Appointment on the IPPIS Platform”, sent to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Danladi Kifasi said that “it has been observed with serious concern the incessant requests for correction of Dates of Birth (DOB) and Date of First Appointment (DOFA) of Officers from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).”
“These requests are usually predicated on the claim that a mistake, was made at the time of capturing the employees’ records on the IPPIS Platform”.
Accordingly he said, “all Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies are required to thoroughly scrutinized the documents presented by Officers for any change of data on the IPPIS Platform as they would be held personally liable for any information and /or falsification of such application.”
The Head of Service said further that, Information on employee’s Date of Birth and Date of First Appointment, form part of the sensitive employee data variables on the IPPIS Platform and must therefore be handle with caution.
Mr. Kifasi further directed that all requests for correction of Date of Birth and Date of First Appointment by Officers must be addressed to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. Adding that such requests must also be accompanied with employee’s personal files, containing records of service and other relevant documents to buttress the claims and that such requests should be forwarded through letters duly endorsed by Directors of Human Resources Management (HRM) of their respective MDAs.
He warned that any breach of these procedures will attract sanctions in accordance with the Public Service Rules (PSR).
