Rivers State Governor Chibuke Rotimi Amaechi has said the Federal Government is owing his state N105 billion spent on rehabilitation of federal roads within Rivers State.
Amaechi made the disclosure while taking some journalists on inspection tour of some projects embarked upon by his administration, especially during his second term in office.
The governor said the stretch of the road that leads to the boundary of Imo State from River State was in a total mess, until he decided to put the road in good shape “for the sake of my people, who are the direct users of the facility.”
“The purpose of the mandate given to me by my people was to enjoy dividends of democracy. Putting the road in good shape is part of the social responsibilities I owe them as their servant,” he said.
While conducting journalists on a tour of the 10-kilometre road that would serve as a bye-pass to decongest traffic within Port-Harcourt metropolis, Amaechi explained that it would “make access to the airport quicker apart from the decongestion of traffic in the metropolis,” adding that “the capital intensive project would be completed before the end of my tenure in office.”
The six-lane dual carriage road being built at a cost of N49bn has three flyovers and six bridges with pedestrian walkways and very wide median that would make future expansion convenient without disturbing people’s buildings.
“We want to leave behind an enduring legacy that coming generations would be proud of,” Amaechi enthused, saying, “that informed why we are determined to make our second term in office better than our first term despite all the needless distractions.
