The Federal Government has appealed to hoteliers and other Nigerians to be vigilant and inform security operatives of any untoward moves in their neighborhood.
The warning was given at a two-day workshop on Security Consciousness & Awareness for Hotel, Employers and Association Executives in Abuja.
The Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office (SSO) office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Ibrahim Mahe, warned that insurgency has evolved new tactics to beat security including recruiting women, abduction, armed robbery, sucide bombings among others.
He recalled that insurgency started with incessant killings and deliberate damages to public property and attack on security agents, but has degenerated into “armed robbery, abduction of innocent citizens…drafting women as suicide bombers”.
Represented by the Director SSO Abdullahi Shehu, Mahe said, the workshop jointly facilitated by the Presidency, Special Services Office (SSO) office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) said, the aim was to give the beneficiaries necessary security tips to enhance their capacity to respond to the security challenges as it is currently going on and be able to confront the situation if the occasion calls.
The workshop is intended to look at the essentials of hotel management, power of observation/facial identification and reporting queer activities and their role in crime identification, reduction and reporting.
Also other topics to be considered understand terrorism, the need for personnel and organizational safety and provision of safety measures and emergency responses.
The intention of the Federal government is one of the avenues to emplace the many proactive security measures “aimed at abolishing the capacities of the insurgents”, besides the institutional arrangements.
The National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) represented by the Coordinator, Counter-Terrorism Office of the NSA General Sarkinyaki Bello (Rtrd), said one of the strongest strategies to bring to an end the security challenges facing the country was to raise security consciousness among those in constant contact with the larger populace and seek their collaboration in this direction in tackling the menance.
