A forensic analysis has confirmed the authenticity of the viral video that allegedly shows former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje receiving bundles of dollar notes as a bribe.
In a two-minute viral video in 2017, Ganduje was allegedly seen pocketing large wads of American dollars in what is said to be bribe payments from public works contractors before rolling them into his white ‘babanriga’ dress.

Ganduje, however, denied the video’s contents and maintained his innocence after the video surfaced.

The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Rimingado, said the alleged Ganduje bribery video has been subjected to forensic analysis, and confirmed that the video was not doctored.

“The authenticity of the videos had been confirmed,” Rimingado said on Wednesday during a one-day public dialogue on the anti-corruption crusade in Kano.

Rimingado said he has faced immense pressure in determining if former governor Ganduje is innocent or guilty based on the video.

He revealed that the commission had investigated the allegations against Ganduje since 2018 but faced challenges due to the former governor’s immunity.

Kano State House of Assembly formed a committee to investigate the allegations, but their findings were not submitted before a new assembly was inaugurated in July 2023.

In response to the matter, Ganduje filed a lawsuit in the Kano State High Court, seeking to prevent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating him.

The former Attorney General of the State, representing Ganduje, requested that the court restrain the EFCC until a separate lawsuit between Ganduje and the publisher of the Daily Nigerian, Jafaar Jafaar, is resolved.
