Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has commended the Enugu State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over its recent bust of a notorious marijuana syndicate operating in Awgu Local Government Area.
The operation had resulted in the confiscation of 233 bags of cannabis at an improvised warehouse where the cache of the illegal substance was hidden.
Although the prime suspect, Mr. Tagbo Nwafor, is still on the run, his mother whom the agency described as an accessory is in custody.
Inspecting the large haul at the agency’s headquarters in Enugu, the governor urged the NDLEA personnel not to relent in their commitment to rid the society of the cultivation and sale of hard drugs, noting that its adverse effects on the youth cannot be overemphasized.
He advised locals in communities where drug peddlers carry out their nefarious trade to always assist security agencies in unmasking the culprits, saying “there is nothing good about hard drugs and we should neither condone their cultivation nor sale amongst us”.
The leader of the operation and superintendent of narcotics, Mr. Julius Aruna, assured Ugwuanyi that the agency was on the prime suspect’s trail and will arrest him and fellow accomplices for prosecution soon. He reiterated the agency’s determination to ensure a drug-free society and thanked the governor for his support to the agency.
