The Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has enjoined communities in the state to join hands with the state Government to attract democracy dividends to their areas.
Governor Ugwuanyi made the call at a civic reception organized in his honour by the people of Edem, Nsukka Local Government Area, at Edem Community Secondary School field on Sunday.
Addressing the huge crowd that gathered at the venue of reception to welcome him, he told them that the importance of unity in the prospects of rapid growth of any community can never be over-emphasized, noting that government and private individuals and organizations would want to invest in an environment devoid of rancor and acrimony.
He informed them that despite the era of bailout that has bogged down governors in the country, owing to the economic meltdown, his administration will continue to provide social amenities to the people in line with his campaign promises.
On insecurity brought by the menace of herdsmen, he told the people that his administration was liaising with the traditional rulers and town union authorities to put heads together with the security agencies to beef up security in the state.
He thanked the people for the honour accorded him, urging them to pray for his administration to succeed despite all odds.
Earlier, the state Head of Service, Mr. Chidi Ezema, outlined the achievements of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to include; prompt payment of workers’ salaries, provision of 1oo units of houses to public civil servants, massive road infrastructural network, appointment of sons and daughters of the area into the present administration and the current biometric data capturing of the state’s work force to check ghost workers among numerous achievements.
Mr. Ezema observed that Governor Ugwuanyi had broken the jinx for the community which last hosted a governor in the year 1983 despite its efforts to attract them.
He assured the governor of the unalloyed support of the people of the area and those in government to improve in their service delivery.
The event was marked with a church service officiated by Rev. Monsignor Emmanuel Ugwu who represented the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Prof. Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, and was attended by top government functionaries with dancing troupes to entertain the audience.
