Hoodlums,  March 26, attacked homosexuals at Ojuolape Community at Oju-ore in Sango Ota Area of Ogun State, killing one person, while several others sustained injuries in the attack which occurred on Sunday.

An eyewitness, Monsurat Oguntobirin, stated that a mob attacked and set the venue of the meeting ablaze.

She added that the attack was swift.

Oguntobirin alleged that the neighnourhood watch had surveilled the meeting venue for several months and alleged that “illegal and secret gathering of the homosexuals were conducted in the premises because of the strange men entering and coming out of the premises mostly every last Sunday of the month”.

She further stated that she could not confirm activities in the premises because of the high security fence barricading the compound.

It was gathered that events unfolded after a woman, who was identified a wife of an alleged homosexual, disclosed that her husband was living an alternative lifestyle.

It was gathered that the wife’s suspicions were heightened when she saw a sticker on her husband’s briefcase with the inscription “Giant Horse”.

It was further learnt that when the woman organized some hoodlums to attack the meeting and unleash mayhem on the homosexuals after she uncovered the connotation to the sticker and associated same to her husband’s bisexual leaning.

The Police Relations Police (PRO), Sango Ota, Mr. Joseph Irabor, confirmed that Kayode Lasisi, a union leader at the Sango Ota Motor Park, died in the attack.

Irabor further stated that some of the homosexuals had been arrested as well as some hoodlums who were involved in the attack.

He however pleaded with residents of the community to not take laws into their hands but report any unlawful activity to the appropriate authorities.

The Police PRO added that the said premises had to be shut down to enable investigation into the activities of the homosexuals and prevent breakdown of law and order in the community.

The Police Spokesperson further stated that the investigation would unravel the proprietor of the premises and invite same for questioning.

Public displays of affection with members of the same sex, carry a 10-year jail term in Nigeria.

Irabor therefore advised homosexuals to flee the area and the country as the Police would leave no stone unturned until they arrested and prosecuted homosexuals.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased transport worker, had been deposited at the Sango General Hospital, the Police said.
