The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Igbo Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State, Hon. Malachy Agbo, recently received in his office the people of Diogbe community who had come to present to him their Igwe-elect, Dr Josephat Uchenna Anikwe.

The community was led by the President General, Diogbe Town Union, Mr Emmanuel Mbah.

Mbah in his address traced the events that led to the nomination and acceptance of the Igwe-elect hence they came to formally present him to the chairman.

He disclosed that Dr. Anikwe emerged as a popular choice after the end of the traditional one-year mourning period of the Late Igwe of the community, HRH Igwe Damian Aroh.

Mbah explained that “Dr Josephat Uchenna Anikwe was unanimously adopted as the Igwe-elect of Diogbe Community on 17th May 2016 and so enjoys the overwhelming acceptance and support of the entire people of Diogbe home and abroad”.

He added that Dr. Anikwe’s personality and antecedents made him a popular choice hence the Chairman should therefore recognize and accept him and formally present him to the State government for recognition and issuance of certificate of recognition.

The Chairman of the Council, Malachy Agbo, in his remarks, welcomed the people for coming to see him for such a joyous reason, noting that it was refreshing to see people come to the government at other times, not only when they had problems.

Agbo reiterated that the council’s door remained accessible to every community in the area for whatever purpose, especially when it bordered on issues that promote unity, peace and the progress of the communities and the people.

“I am happy and truly share in your joy today. Seeing this crowd of the young, old men and women of Diogbe, I have no doubt you have chosen the man after your heart. I have also known Dr. Anikwe for over two decades. I can say he is as you people have said of him. We will take it up from here and convey your wishes to the state government. Rest assured you will not be disappointed”, the council boss added.

“I also wish to note it is very commendable that you chose him in an atmosphere devoid of rancour and bitterness. Obviously everyone was carried along in the process. That is why it shall be well with your community and her people. We pray for God’s guidance and protection to be upon him, and may God give him the wisdom to lead you satisfactorily. I hope other communities can emulate you”, Agbo concluded.
