Jigawa State Ministry of Health on Friday said it would immunise 493,000 children against polio disease in Hadejia Health District.
Dr Abdullahi Namadi, the Director, Gunduma Health System in charge of the zone, disclosed this in Hadejia on Friday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Namadi said that the ministry had supplied 600,000 doses of Oral Polio Vaccines for the exercise in the area.
NAN reports that the Hadejia health district comprise Hadejia, Malammadori and Kaugama Local Government Areas.
Namadi noted that the children would also receive immunisation against other child-killer diseases between April 12 and April 16.
He said that the agency had deployed adequate personnel to facilitate smooth conduct of the exercise in the area.
“We also deployed special teams to motor parks, Qur’anic schools and nomadic settlements.
‘’This is to ensure that children of wandering herdsmen and travellers are immunised against the disease,’’ he said.
The director, who said the agency recorded 125 per cent coverage in the March exercise, added that it had engaged community and religious leaders to mobilise people for the programme. NAN
