The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Ballah Nasarawa, to relocate to Kaduna State to tackle the incessant kidnappings and other violent crimes in the state.
The IG also directed that police officers who had served in the state command for a period of six years and above be transferred out of the command with corresponding replacement.
There has been a number of high-profile abductions in the state in the last two weeks, resulting in the death of two of the victims.
Those abducted within the period include an Army Colonel, Samaila Inusa, a director in the Dangote Group, Mansur Ahmed and three clerics, Revs. Emmanuel Dziggau, Yakubu Dzarma, Ilya Anto and one Afolabi Alega.
Four of the victims survived to tell the tale, while Inusa and Anto were murdered by their captors.
Arase in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Bisi Kolawole on Monday, admonished the AIG to evolve new intelligence-gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies to suit the local challenges in the state.
He also charged the AIG to devise means of halting the incessant kidnapping as well as other forms of crimes and criminality, especially in Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area of the state.
The IG equally directed the Commissioners of Police in Kogi State Command and his counterpart in FCT to improve on the surveillance network and high police visibility in their respective commands, especially along Abuja-Lokoja-Okene and Kabba-Owo axis, to check the incessant criminal activities in the areas.
“The IG assured the citizenry of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to their safety, noting that the police in cooperation with other security agencies will continually ensure strategic responses towards eliminating any threat to internal security of the nation,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has organised a pre-retirement seminar for police personnel who were about retiring from service where they were educated about opportunities in entrepreneurship, agro-business, the service industry and small and medium scale sector.
Arase said the objective of the seminar was to prepare the officers for life after service by ensuring that the participants were well equipped to support themselves and their families in retirement.
The IG, represented by the AIG Intelligence, James Caulcrick, stated that the seminar which was organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Entrepreneur Forum, would challenge the participants to be resourceful and generate incomes for a better post-service life. Punch.
