Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN), yesterday, decried illegal mining of solid minerals in northern states despite a Federal Government ban.
This was as it called on the government to lift the ban on prospecting in Zamfara and affected states. Acting National President, Musa Muhammad, who disclosed this in an interview also lamented lack of monitoring and digitised surveillance by security agencies, saying these are factors negatively affecting mining sites in the country.
He noted that less attention is being paid to large-scale solid minerals theft because of over dependence on crude oil. It will be recalled that in the last three years, mining activities had been banned, especially in Zamfara and Katsina. – Guardian.
