Freed Vanguard columnist, Ms. Dornu Kogbara, said on Saturday that her abductors were angry over former President Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat at the poll.
Kogbara, who regained her freedom after being kidnapped by gunmen and held captive for 12 days, also said that her abductors were annoyed that the former President did nothing for the Niger Delta.
She added that the kidnappers, who appeared to be enlightened, said they helped politicians to win elections in the past and described them (politicians) as official hoodlums.
Kogbara, who spoke with journalists on Saturday at her Nkpogu residence in Port Harcourt, however, stated that her abduction at her residence was not politically motivated, stressing that politicians were not behind her ordeal.
“No, I don’t see any politician behind the mask, though I have to tell you that these boys claimed that they had helped certain politicians win elections in the past.
“They were upset that Goodluck Jonathan had been defeated by a northerner. On the other hand, they were very much unhappy with Jonathan because they felt he had not done much for the Niger Delta.
“I saw politics here and there; they (kidnappers) had a grudge against the former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, for not supporting Goodluck Jonathan. But then they also have a grudge against the current governor.
“Actually, in the end, they told me it was war against big men. That’s how they put it; and to them, big men are politicians; they called them (politicians) official hoodlums,” Kogbara said.
Recalling her experience in the kidnappers’ den, the Vanguard columnist said she was blindfolded and dropped in the creeks.
According to her, “I was dumped in the middle of a creek, leading to nowhere. And they forced an innocent fisherman to take me to Borokiri.
“I am very happy to say that I have been released, I am alive that is all that matters despite all the things that were lost in the robbery that preceded the abduction. I told them I was not worth what they demanded for.”
She thanked the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Musa Kimo, for his determination to tackle the menace of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
“I am happy to say that I have been released. I am alive despite all the things I have lost in the cause of the robbery that preceded the abduction,” the renowned columnist added. – Punch.
