The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, disqualified its former National Vice Chairman (South West), Eddy Olafeso, from contesting the position of National Publicity Secretary.
Also affected are Prof. Adewale Abiodun Oladepo and Okey Muo-Aroh, who was eyeing the National Secretary seat.
Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja, explained that “all these have been disqualified because they took the party to court. Their intention also was to stop the national convention.”
He regretted that the affected aspirants failed to exhaust the internal conflict resolution mechanism as spelt out in Section 51 of the party’s constitution.
According to Fintiri, those disqualified could still approach the screening appeal committee to present their grievances.
He also announced that some 27 aspirants were cleared to contest for various positions.
IN the meantime, erstwhile Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has said he remains the right man to give the country what it needs.
Speaking ahead of the 2023 general elections, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 poll insisted that Nigeria needed a leader that would unify, restructure and guarantee the security of its citizens.
The Waziri Adamawa, who addressed the 70th birthday lecture and book presentation of the Emeritus Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, in Abuja, added that the nation was in dire need of a leadership that would reform the economy and ensure stability.
When asked if he was the right man for the job, he stated: “I have said that before, I will do it (again).
“Nigeria needs a leadership that can unify the country, bring stability, restructure and reform the economy that would bring about security.”
In his remarks, Dokpesi said the country’s growth and development would be realised only if insecurity is properly addressed and Nigerians are united.
He called on the youths to defend democracy and unite towards a prosperous and progressive nation.
