The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials have confirmed that Frenchman Paul Le Guen and Tom Saintfiet from Belgium will not be physically present in Abuja on Monday (today) for their interviews as the federation holds the last process in recruiting a new coach for the Super Eagles.
The two foreigners will be interviewed by electronically via Skype.
The NFF technical committee shortlisted the two coaches alongside Salisu Yusuf.
The Assistant Director for Communication in the NFF, Ademola Olajire confirmed Yusuf would be in Abuja for the schedule.
“Salisu is in Abuja and so no problem about that,” he said.
We understand the NFF adopted the interview style in order to cut down cost.
Chairman of the technical committee Chris Green said on Sunday, “We have concluded arrangements for the interview process to take place at the NFF secretariat on Monday and thereafter, we will forward the name of the successful candidate to the NFF board, who will deliberate on it and thereafter make their decision public.”
Green said the committee will only settle for the candidate they see as most qualified and capable of qualifying the Eagles for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.
Saintfiet who is making about his third try for the Nigerian position coached the national teams of Namibia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Yemen, Malawi and Togo, and also worked with the Qatar U17 side, Young Africans FC of Tanzania and Free State Stars FC in South Africa.
Yusuf played for Nigeria at U20 level, won FA Cup titles with El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri as a player and coached top clubs Kano Pillars, El-Kanemi Warriors and Enyimba.
He assisted Eagles coaches Sunday Oliseh, Samson Siasia and late Stephen Keshi, and was caretaker coach for two friendlies that the Eagles won against Mali and Luxembourg in Europe at the end of May.
Le Guen, 52, who many see as the clear front runner played for Brest, Nantes and Paris Saint Germain and won 17 caps with France, before coaching Rennes, Lyon, PSG (in France) and Glasgow Rangers (in Scotland).
He qualified the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon for the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals and also coached Oman
