The Coordinator of Nigeria’s National Information Centre, Mike Omeri, said on Wednesday that the country and some of its neighbours had signed a memorandum of understanding to fight terrorism.
Omeri made the announcement at a joint news conference in Abuja.
He said the Director-General of National Intelligence Agency participated at the meeting where the memorandum was signed in Younde on Tuesday.
He said the MOU was part of the continued effort by the Federal Government to strengthen alliance against terrorism in the region.
Omeri said as a follow up to the Paris summit and commitment to end the insurgency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, was attending a meeting in London to build on the gains of the summit.
“The outcome of the meeting is expected to strengthen the level of implementation of the various agreements on the fight against terrorism,” he said.
The coordinator, however, expressed worry that some Nigerians were abusing telephone numbers given to the public to report security threats for prompt action.
“We are worried over the level of false information being dished out by some members of the public, who are using the telephone numbers to settle personal scores.
“We wish to advise that these numbers should be strictly used to ensure security of Nigerians,” he said.
