Northern Governor’s Wives Forum, has decried the abduction of over 120 female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno state by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, early in the week, pleading that the girls be released unconditionally.
The Governor’s wives who condemned the abduction described the victims as “harmless students and future mothers whose lives should not be traumatized, but protected and safeguarded by all.”
In statement issued in Makurdi, at the end of its emergency meeting, signed by the chairperson of the forum, Mrs. Yemisi Suswam, the Governor’s wives also condemned Monday morning bombing at the Nyanya bus terminus, in the suburb of Abuja which claimed over 70 lives.
While condoling with the families of victims, and praying for the quick recovery of the injured, the forum also urged politicians to desist from politicizing the security challenge facing the country.
The Governors’s wives who appreciated the efforts of federal government to contain the security threats in the country advised further that the government should seek help from other countries to end the problem of insurgency in the Nigeria.P
“The Nigeria Immigration Service should also step up efforts to check the influx of illegal foreigners and dangerous materials into country in our bid to end the threat to security and peace in the country.” the statement read.
They also solicited the creation of jobs and youths empowerment schemes to help develop the Nigerian youth so that they don’t become willing tools for violence and other criminal activities.
