The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has expressed his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Enugu State on the loss of lives and property in the recent attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen on some agrarian communities in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state.
In a condolence message to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Chief Obiano assured the people of Enugu State that his thoughts and the prayers of Ndi Anambra were with them in their moment of loss and sadness.
Said he, “Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the entire people of Enugu State in this moment of avoidable sorrow and grief. We have no doubt that God Almighty will grant the souls of the faithful departed a peaceful repose and their families and other people who lost properties in the attacks, the fortitude to bear their losses.”
Governor Obiano further observed that “our country, Nigeria, needs help at this moment in time and we count on the courage of its leaders to rise above predictable positions and preserve the peace.”
He expressed confidence that the growing incidence of violent conflicts between the Fulani herdsmen and some pastoral communities across the country would soon be resolved to avoid further loss of lives.
The governor commended the people of Enugu State for their calmness in the face of extreme provocation, noting that, “the peace of our country has always been preserved by great acts of forbearance like the one you have demonstrated in the present circumstances.”
No fewer than seven communities in Nimbo, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area fell victims, last Sunday, to the growing onslaught of Fulani herdsman across the country with several people dead, many others wounded and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
