Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has commended the spirit of sportsmanship shown by the 21 PDP candidates who announced the withdrawal of their petitions in the tribunal against APGA victory in the last House of Assembly elections
The governor said in Anambra yesterday after a meeting with 21 PDP candidates that the gesture was worth emulating.
Represented by the deputy governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, the governor added that the progress of the state was greater than the desires of an individual or a political party.
Okeke disclosed that the governor was at home with the decision of the 21 PDP candidates when they approached him for peace as they were tired of bitterness and rancor that trails elections in the country and had decided to sheathe their swords and work for the peace of the state.
The deputy governor said that leadership is not about personal interest or political parties but about availing the people good governance adding that the latest development will help mobilize the desired support towards the present administration ‘s resolve to develop all parts of the state.
Okeke said that the governor through his people oriented system of governance matched his words with action when he promised to expand the frontiers of APGA.
He said that going by the level of development in the state; there are prospects that the party will soon witness mass decampees from other political parties.
leader of the group and PDP candidate for Nnewi South 2 constituency, Chief Egwuonyibo Okoye said that Obiano has performed creditably in a short while based on his track record and that they decided to withdraw their cases from the tribunal to enable APGA lawmakers who emerged victorious have the needed support to transform the state to the next level.
He said any distraction to the government will lead to delay in the progress of the state and urged others who lost to emulate President Goodluck Jonathan.
