POLICE detectives in Delta State have begun a manhunt for a gang of armed robbery suspects who specialise in car snatching in Warri metropolis and its environs.
Southern City News was informed that in the course of the manhunt, police detectives in the state were able to recover a stolen vehicle and a locally-made pistol from robbers in the Warri axis of the state.
It was gathered that the vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser, was earlier snatched at gun point from a housewife in the oil city.
It was learnt that the suspects, now on the run, blocked the victim and ordered her to surrender the key to the vehicle at gun point. They reportedly sped away to an unknown destination before police recovered the vehicle.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, said a patrol team from Area Commander’s office in Warri suspected the vehicle and gave it a chase after the driver of the car refused to stop for search along Iyarafido Junction in Warri.
She said the occupants of the vehicle, on noticing that policemen were closing in on them, jumped out of the car and escaped.
The team, according to her, promptly recovered the vehicle and recovered one locally-made pistol, a Nokia phone and an Ecobank cheque book belonging to the housewife.
The state police spokesperson gave the registration number of the recovered vehicle as APP 403 BC.
She added that preliminary investigation had revealed that the said Toyota Land Cruiser was snatched from the owner at Emeberi Street, by Eyasa Layout in Warri.
Meanwhile, an alleged N58m fraud is currently causing tension in Delta State-owned Transport Company popularly known as Delta Line.
While the whereabouts of the Uduaghan Mass Transit Buses still remains unknown, tongues are already wagging over the rot in the company, which used to be a beehive of business activities.
Sources said the company’s former General Manager, Isaiah Iyione, allegedly masterminded the sale of the company’s property in Lagos for N58m.
But in reaction, Iyione dispelled the claim as untrue and figment of the imagination of his detractors. Punch
