The Presidency has reacted to claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he got $800,000 forex at N185 from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, who dismissed the PDP claims said he wished he knew the psychopath behind the official @PDPNigeria handle so that he can sue for defamation.
The PDP had earlier stated in a tweet that: “Garba Shehu got $800,000 forex at N185 from CBN on the instructions of Emefiele, CBN governor and sold at N350 on the same day.”
In a series of tweets, Shehu said he only did a transaction for $8,000 which he sent to his daughter and nephews through a bank.
“It is a lie by @PDPNigeria to say I bought USD worth 800,000 from the CBN. I had only two FOREX purchases since coming into government.
“Amounting to Eight Thousand Dollars (USD 8,000) sent to my daughter and nephews through UBA. This is verifiable.
“I’m not a FOREX trader. The day I choose to start trading in FOREX I will resign as a Presidential spokesman.”
If I know the coward and psychopath behind the official @PDPNigeria handle, I will launch a defamation suit against him/her”.
“And I will claim money in millions as damages!,” he said.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday, claimed that the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari and a spokesperson to the president, Garba Shehu got foreign exchange at discounted prices on the orders of the Central bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele.
In a series of tweets, PDP outlined how much they got and what exchange rate. The first tweet read: “Garba Shehu got $800,000 forex at N185 from CBN on the instructions of Emefiele, CBN governor and sold at N350 on the same day.”
Using the hashtag, CorruptionAndBuhari, PDP tweeted again, “A Bureau De Change company linked with General Danbazzau got $6m forex from CBN at N185 and sold at N362. #CorruptionAndBuhari”
It then tweeted yet again alleging that Aisha Buhari got the biggest forex. “First Lady Aisha Buhari got $22m forex from CBN on the instructions of Emefiele and the company sold at N362 same day. #CorruptionAndBuhari
Lastly the PDP claimed that Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to the President Buhari also got $400,000 at N185 and sold for N340.
