No fewer than 19 members of the Enugu State House of Assembly have declared support for Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in the buildup to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary elections in the state discarding their own, the Speaker of the Assembly, Eugene Odo, who is also an aspirant.
The 19 members were part of the state Legislators’ Forum, consisting of members from the state constituencies and councillors from the 260 wards of the state.
The remaining five members of the Assembly, including the speaker, stayed away from the forum clearly showing the division in the legislature ahead of the PDP governorship primary.
Speaking on behalf of the leadership of the forum, Dr. Emeka Ogbuabor said the association was founded recently to provide a platform for Enugu State legislators to promote good governance through dialogue, advocacy, networking, partnership and increased accountability.
His words: “We will encourage early debate and information exchange among legislators; and reinforce cooperation between our association and our party, the PDP.
“We pledge our unalloyed support to Ugwuanyi, our parliamentary colleague and consensus aspirant in the December 8, 2014 gubernatorial primary election of the state chapter of our party, the Peoples Democratic Party.”
