The Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), Bauchi State Command, on Sunday refuted speculations of attempted jail-break at the Bauchi Central Prisons which alleged that the Nigeria Police Force has foiled an attempted jailbreak in Bauchi Central Prison.
In a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Adam Jibrin, in Bauchi, it said there was no such incident.
“While we express our dismay at the unprecedented anxiety the purported jailbreak story has generated in many quarters, the Nigerian Prisons Service wishes to inform the general public that the story is unfounded and not true as there was neither such incident in Bauchi Central Prison nor indeed any other prison within Bauchi State Command. All the prisons remain calm and peaceful.
We assure the general public that the Nigerian Prisons Service will always do all within its statutory mandate to ensure the safe custody and reformation of inmates under its care.
While appreciating all the security agencies in the state for their support and commendable working synergy towards fighting crime and maintaining law and order in the state, we wish to advise the media to adhere strictly to journalism ethics by verifying their stories from appropriate authorities before going to press.”
