The ruling party in Scotland, the SNP, will launch a fresh drive for Scottish independence, Nicola Sturgeon has said.
Sturgeon admitted that many Scots had not “found our arguments compelling enough” to choose to leave in the 2014 referendum.
The party’s new strategy will start in the summer, following May’s Holyrood election and EU referendum in June.
Addressing those who did not vote “Yes”, the politician said “we will listen to what you have to say” and insisted that she would hear “concerns” and “address questions”.
The SNP leader made her speech at the party’s spring conference in Glasgow.
In a message to the Scottish electorate, she said: “patiently and respectfully, we will seek to convince you that independence really does offer the best future for Scotland.
“A future shaped, not by perpetual Tory governments that we don’t vote for, but by our own choices and our own endeavours.”
Ms Sturgeon had previously said that a second independence referendum would “almost certainly” be triggered if Scotland voted to stay within the EU but the UK voted to leave. – Scotsman.
