The Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, has conferred its fellowship on second republic President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari and five others for their outstanding contributions to the education sector.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that, awards were presented during the combined convocation ceremony of the college, held on Saturday in Sokoto.
Other receipients include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, Gov. Aliyu Wamakko and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.
The rest were Prof. Muhammad Junaid, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Colleges of Education and a traditional ruler, Alhaji Ahmadu Dange.
NAN reports that Wamakko, who is also the Visitor to the college, responded on behalf of the awardees and commended the college for the recognition.
He pledged that the state governemnt would continue to allocate the lion share of its annual budget to the education sector.
“Education is the bedrock of the development of any society and we are not going to pay lip service to the sector.
“My administration has been allocating the lion share of the state’s budget annually from 2007 to date, and the gesture will be sustained.”
The Special Adviser on Higher Education in the state, Prof. Gajam Ardo commended the huge support the state government has been extending to the institution. NAN
