The Nigeria Football Referees Association (NRA) has warned clubs in the habit of paying incentives and gratuity to referees to influence their match judgement in their favour to desist from the acts.
The secretary general, Moruf Oluwa, who gave the warning in a chat with journalists, urged the club officials that instead of bribing the referees they should give the money to their players to enable them put in their best.
“I am appealing to club officials to stop bribing our referees. Give your money to your players to win matches for you and stop inducing the referees,” he said.
He also called on the League Management Company (LMC) to pay the referees their entitlement as at when due. “Organisers should pay the referees their dues. In a situation where a referee arrives a match venue, lodges into a hotel and the following morning proceeds to the match venue without assistance from the home team, such referee can never be biased as he is self-sufficient.” Leadership
