Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum has charged his players to not get complacent ahead of their final group game against Burundi at the ongoing 2022 Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations.
Burundi have lost their last three matches in all competitions including a 4-2 loss to the Mares of Botswana on the opening day of the tournament and a 3-1 defeat at the hands of last edition’s runner-ups Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
Burundi now face a difficult challenge against nine-time Champions, Nigeria on Sunday (today).
Speaking at the press conference after the Falcons’ win over Botswana, coach Waldrum said, “It is true that we want to build on what we have, so there wouldn’t be massive changes in the squad against Burundi.
“Every game is new, so that would be the approach we will take for every game. We have to keep winning, that’s the idea.
“Every squad, every team are fully capable of causing problems for us, so we have to respect that. We can’t overlook Burundi, we have to go into the game with a lot of commitment. As far as the pressure goes, every game is pressure.” He said.
Waldrum also hailed the substitutes and praised the quality of the Nigeria bench
“Christy (Ucheibe) came and played great, as did Gift (Monday). It’s a good thing that we have a lot more options, we have Uchenna Kanu who hasn’t started for us yet but she’s a very good player, fully capable of starting for us as well.
“We’ve got a good young player in Macleans (Chinonyerem) who got in in the last few minutes but we would like to see more of her. We’ve got the likes of Francesca Ordega, I mean we’ve got a lot of talent so we just need to make the decisions on which ones are the best combinations to play up front.
“I would expect you will see them all, whether some start or they don’t, that final decision hasn’t been made yet.” – Agency report.
