Katsina State Government has disbursed N20 million and food items to 2, 000 physically challenged and less privileged persons in 34 Local Government Areas.
The wife of the state governor, Hajia Fatima Shema, who made the disbursement and distribution of the items on Monday in Malumfashi, said the gesture was to assist the less privileged.
Shema said that 350 persons benefited from the gesture in Katsina Local Government, while 50 beneficiaries were drawn from each of the other 33 Local Government Areas.
She said that each beneficiary got N10, 000 cash as well as some measures of rice, maize and a piece of treated mosquito net.
She lauded the committee in charge for selecting the physically challenged persons living in the rural communities and the urban areas, and urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the support.
According to her, the State Government had offered similar gestures in the past and called on wealthy individuals and groups to contribute to the upliftment of people’s wellbeing.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government, Alhaji Muntari Ammani, lauded the gesture, stressing that it was to address the challenges facing the physically challenged.
Ammani explained that the support would complement the state and federal governments’ poverty alleviation efforts.
He urged the beneficiaries, who were capable of investing in the small scale businesses to do so to strengthen their standards of living.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Musawa Local Government, Alhaji Tanimu Kira, described the gesture as a humanitarian support from the governor’s wife to the less privileged.
Kira said that the support would facilitate the ongoing government’s free education and free health delivery policies across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mallam Idi Galadiman-Makahi and Mallama Hajara Daudu, expressed appreciation for the support.
They noted that it would uplift their living conditions and that of their children.
In attendance included the Executive Director, Katsina Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Hassan Rawayau and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Relations and Publicity, Alhaji Sha’aibu Makaurachi. (NAN)
